FOOD NEWS: No.1 Duke Street, Richmond

We have to admit, we have more than a soft spot for Richmond. Being so close to London and yet feeling so far, it’s a fantastic place to go for a day to escape the city. Not that we need an excuse to go, but when we heard of new all day restaurant and bar No. 1 Duke Street opening near Richmond’s leafy Green we got very excited.

From the group behind No.32 Old Town Clapham and No.11 Pimlico Road (two firm favourites of ours for cocktails and brunch respectively), No.1 Duke Street is a place away from home that locals and visitors to the area can enjoy any time of day, for any occasion.

The menu promises glorious yet great value food, with seasonally changing ingredients – think lamb and apricots in springtime; beef and blackberries in winter. There’ll also be non-meat options available, catering for vegetarians from start to finish. Small dishes and sharing plates will encourage No.1’s idea of social dining (highlights including the spiced crab & avocado crostini and pork & fennel meatballs) and plenty of drinks options from excellent craft beers to cocktails (the Pear & Ginger Toddy and Hot Peanut Butter Rum sounding particular heavenly during the winter months) will be sure to quench every customer’s thirst.

There’ll also be a few nice touches along the way. For locals, a loyalty card giving 10% discount off food Monday – Friday lunchtime and for those with rugby match day tickets, a free beer will be given per ticket. Set across two spacious floors, No.1 Duke Street houses a private dining room, an intimate courtyard, games room and an open kitchen, meaning whatever your reason for visiting Richmond – be it for good food, fun, meetings or celebrations – No.1 has got your back covered.
